Armeo^® Functional Rehabilitation

The Armeo® is an effective tool for patients whose primary aim is to improve the function of an affected arm after stroke, traumatic brain injury or other neurological diseases and injuries. Despite the patients’ disorder, research suggests that the neuroplasticity of the brain is retained and new neurological connections can be made through intensive, repetitive and task-specific movements. Patients who have used the Armeo® report that it’s not only effective, but it’s also more fun than traditional exercises, making it easier to stay motivated and progress more quickly.

Features of the Armeo® arm therapy tool include:

1. Adjustable arm support - By providing support for the affected arm and hand, the Armeo® allows patients to re-acquire and improve motor control. The support counteracts the effects of gravity and helps to:

• reveal any remaining motor functions and utilize this sparing in function to perform
the exercise protocols and gradually build strength in your arm
• facilitate self-initiated and intensive repetitive movements
• increase movements within a 3-D workspace

2. Augmented feedback - Utilizing a wide range of self-initiated, functional and motivational exercises and games, which simulate regular activities from daily life, the Armeo® gives the patient Augmented Feedback through:

• repeated tasks which are motivating and rewarding
• functional exercises with immediate performance feedback
• adjustable difficulty levels according to the patients’ needs and progress
• adjustable workspace according to the patients’ changing abilities

3. Assessment tools – Built-in sensors and software record arm movements at each joint, so you and your therapist can track your improvement, determine the appropriate difficulty level for you and customize your training program as you progress.
